One of my colleagues at work is pretty good at front-end development. I like the speed at which he writes front-end code. He’s certainly better than me at Angular and generally has a similar attitude to professional work: work hardest when it matters the most.
So, I thought that I found my guy. I told myself a long time ago that if I were to ever start a company it would be with another developer and not any random loud-mouthed business guy.
I wanted it this way because having another developer would help me with writing code. I don’t want to be the only person coding since that will be 1) demotivating and 2) lead to poor-quality code.
With a second programmer close by, we can write code together, review it and ship it while doing all the other business functions at the same time.
Bad news
Anyhow today he messages me that he’s no longer interested to continue with the startup as our definition of success is not the same. He wants to go the path of quick passive income whereas I want to build an actual self-sustaining traditional business.
And I wholeheartedly accept his decision. In fact, this is proof that he was a good choice for a founder since he brought clarity to me before I had to find it out on my own! This is exactly what you can expect from the right person to start your company. 🙂
But … I still do believe we could’ve been a great partnership with him focusing on frontend tech and I delving on backend intricacies and infrastructure. I’m sure it would’ve been a lot of fun. 😕
It’s OK. I’m going to cry a little 😢 and move on to the next steps.
And yes it does hurt.
Just a little.
